DANTE currently manages research and education networking projects serving Europe (GÉANT), the Mediterranean (EUMEDCONNECT), Sub-Saharan Africa (AfricaConnect) and Central Asia (CAREN) regions, coordinates Europe-China collaboration (ORIENTplus), and assists the projects underway in Latin America (RedCLARA), the Caribbean (CKLN) and Asia-Pacific (TEIN). An overview of these projects is shown below, with further information is available on the respective project websites.

GÉANT is the pan-European research and education network that interconnects Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). Together we connect over 50 million users at 10,000 institutions across Europe, operating at speeds of up to 500Gbps. GÉANT also has extensive links to networks around the world, reaching over 60 NRENs outside of Europe. To learn more, visit the GÉANT website. |
EUMEDCONNECT3 provides a high-capacity dedicated Internet network for the research and education (R&E) communities across the southern and eastern Mediterranean region. To learn more, visit the EUMEDCONNECT3 website. |
The AfricaConnect project aims to establish a high-capacity Internet network for research and education in Southern and Eastern Africa to provide the region with a gateway to global research collaboration. To learn more, visit the AfricaConnect website. |
Co-founded by the European Union and launched in 2010, CAREN interconnects researchers, academics and students at over 500 institutions in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, with Uzbekistan also a candidate country. To learn more, visit the CAREN website. |
ORIENTplus is a high capacity e-infrastructure linking European and Chinese researchers with the highest capacity connection and the shortest network path between the two regions, via GÉANT in London and the Chinese NRENs CERNET and CSTNET in Beijing. To learn more, visit the ORIENTplus website. |

RedCLARA is the pan-Latin American research and education network. Established in 2003 by the EC-funded ALICE (Latin America Interconnected with Europe) project, RedCLARA currently interconnects 13 Latin American National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) and provides a 2.5Gbps transatlantic link between Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Madrid (Spain) to the GÉANT network in Europe. RedCLARA also manages the EC-funded ELCIRA project which aims to enhance the provision of collaboration services and tools to support research collaboration between Europe and Latin America. To learn more, visit the RedCLARA website. |
The EC-funded C@ribNET project provides for a regional research and education infrastructure which interconnects universities and colleges in Caribbean countries to each other. Managed and operated by CKLN (Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network), C@ribNET is connected to GÉANT in Europe via a 155-Mbps link between Santo Domingo and Paris. The Caribbean is also connected to RedCLARA in Latin America at 45Mbps and to the research and education community in North America at 300Mbps. To learn more, visit the CKLN website. |

The Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) provides dedicated high-capacity Internet connectivity for research and education communities across Asia-Pacific. With over 50 million users, TEIN is the world's largest research and education network and has been managed since 2006 by DANTE. In September 2012, responsibility for the new phase, TEIN4, was transferred to the TEIN* Cooperation Center (TEIN*CC), which was established by the Korean government to continue to develop the network up to 2016 with DANTE support. To learn more, visit the TEIN*CC website. |
